Splendora ISD Improves Grades with Kindness and Compassion

Splendora ISD is thrilled to welcome its students back to school, and most of the kids are looking forward to it as well. This year, Splendora ISD is prioritizing maintaining that excited, back-to-school feeling, all year long. 

Splendora ISD has recently launched a new program called Capturing Kids’ Hearts. The elementary and high schools have been testing this program since last school year, and teachers and administrators alike have noticed a marked decrease in bullying and negativity on campus. 

Teachers and the school staff are incorporating techniques to help forge meaningful connections with students and to help them develop positive relationships with their classmates. This involves each class creating a social contract of behaviors they want to demonstrate every day and an accountability program if these behaviors are not followed. The schools in Splendora that implemented this program last year saw a 10% decrease in-office visits, on the low end, with rates dropping as much as 50% in some of the elementary schools. 

Unfortunately, the disciplinary rates at Splendora High School reportedly went up last school year. Students and teachers believe this program will take a longer adoption process at the high school level.

Splendora will continue to implement this program to help build kind, meaningful relationships and empower students across their district for years to come.
